The Board of County Commissioners, Clerk of Court, Property Appraiser, Sheriff, Supervisor of Elections, and Tax Collector follow the Florida “Whistle-blower’s Act*.” The purpose of this state law is to prevent retaliation against anyone who:
- Reports violations of law by a public employer or independent contractor that create a specific danger to the public’s health, safety or welfare, or
- Discloses information alleging improper use of governmental office, gross waste of funds or any other abuse or gross neglect of duty on the part of an agency, public officer, or employee.
To report or disclose suspected violations of law or fraud, as defined above, please refer to the policies linked below or contact the Constitutional Officers or their staff directly:
If you believe the suspected violation is criminal in nature, contact a law enforcement office. Examples are the State Attorney’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, or local police or sheriff’s offices.
