The Public Works Department of Okaloosa County will achieve a record of outstanding customer satisfaction.
The traffic division operates and maintains over 100 traffic control devices including signalized intersections, emergency signals, and school zone beacons. Our main goal is to ensure the continuous operation of these field devices as well as the communication, video and computer systems at the Traffic Operation Center.
In 2005 the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) proceeded with the development of Phase III of the Advanced Traffic Control System. The project resulted in the installation of 23 communication devices on traffic signals in Crestview, Niceville, Valparaiso, and along East State Road 20. A joint effort between Okaloosa County Traffic Division and FDOT made it possible to include Ethernet, which is a more flexible communications protocol, during this project. This more flexible protocol allowed for the expansion and addition of Intelligent Transportation System devices on the existing fiber optic infrastructure which will produce substantial savings of current and future dollars.
